Hello, My Name Is Anthony R  Cortes Bonds

Introduction.

My overarching goal is to achieve self-sufficiency again, with my immediate focus on securing funds for essentials like food, catching up on truck payments, and caring for my ASD service dog. The journey has been challenging, with unexpected hurdles such as discovering my legal blindness, which went unnoticed for years due to oversight by social services. Despite starting with nothing but a bag of clothes and a laptop when I moved from California to Texas when the pandemic started, I was determined to establish stability to gain custody of my mother and save her from the system. Thanks to the kindness of a stranger, I secured a job at a fast-food restaurant, eventually transitioning to a better-paying security job. However, my deteriorating eyesight became a setback, and I only learned of my legal blindness recently, despite it being documented since 2015 and I just receive them. This lack of communication from social workers doesn't surprise me, given the past misdiagnoses and neglect in my family's medical history. My mother's rare condition, Guillain-Barré Syndrome from organophosphate was misdiagnosed as a delusion. This exposer to organophosphate likely contributed to my own eye condition, Keratoconus, yet this crucial information was hidden from us and the courts, echoing the troubling narrative of the "Taking care of Maya" story cover up they got it wrong. As I continue my journey with my mother as my driver, I'm immensely grateful for the support and assistance that have come my way. Thank you for extending of a hand up.

As lockdown descended upon California, chaos reigned. My car had broken down just before the tumult began, adding urgency to my decision to leave. The day of mandatory lockdown, tensions escalated, and a coworker was shot, while a suspect was handcuffed by police. It was a scene of turmoil, emblematic of the state's unraveling, which only reinforced my resolve to seek a fresh start elsewhere.

Leaving California wasn't easy. Despite my discontent with the state's oppressive atmosphere, it had been my home. But as the grip of discontent tightened, the allure of a fresh start in Texas beckoned, far from what felt like a stifling environment verging on communism.

Nervously, I packed my bags and headed to Texas, uncertain of what lay ahead. Could I make it alone, leaving behind friends and familiarity? These questions weighed heavily on my mind.

Arriving in Texas with just a bag and a laptop, the road ahead seemed daunting. Job rejections piled up, and without a phone, the challenge felt insurmountable.

Then, a message from Indeed led to a job interview at a fast-food restaurant. What began as an interview turned into a managerial position, thanks to the support of a compassionate General Manager who saw my potential.

Though transitioning to a better-paying security job had long been a dream, it would take a couple of years before I made the leap. When I finally did, it felt like a step towards greater stability and independence.

It wasn't until a year and a half after transitioning to security that I discovered my deteriorating eyesight. The revelation came as a shock, adding a new layer of uncertainty to my journey towards self-sufficiency.

Yet, with the unwavering support of the GM and encouragement from family, I pressed on, determined to overcome the challenges and carve out a brighter future for myself in the Lone Star State.
